Michael Talbot has excelled himself with this new edition of a noble, energetic and exciting work discovered by Jan Stockigt in the Saechsische Landesbibliothek, Dresden, in 2005. The format is clear and relatively easy to use, though conductors will find page-turning a rapid affair in the Presto 'implebit ruinas...

' and final accelerating 'Sicut erat'. Text underlay has been thoughtfully aligned and the majority of indications of accidentals are unambiguous, though there may be some dispute about the tenor line in bar 34 of the final movement and similar related passages. A reduced choral score is eagerly anticipated and would be most helpful, as would orchestral performing materials! An ideal companion piece for those programming the famous Gloria RV 589, this work has similar orchestration (only an extra oboe required), albeit with a larger number of soloists.
