I bought this early this summer and I've been tackling it very, very slowly. I don't recommend this for the faint of heart, but if you have a decent ammount of skill, or at least the time and determination to compensate, this is a wonderful piece! John William...

never ceases to surprise and please.

  • February 12, 2008 Great score!

This is the special arrangement John Williams made of his "Witches of Eastwick" theme for Gil Shaham, and is featured on the Deutsch Grammophon CD "Devil's Dance." The theme gets considerable treatment within both the piano and the violin parts, so you can have fun playing it on either...

instrument. Also, If you have the "Witches of Eastwick" soundtrack CD, you can hear the fully orchestrated version, which is called "Dance of the Witches."

  • January 21, 2008 Fantastic arrangement

Many years ago, Warner Bros. published "The Devil's Dance" as a treacherous but exciting piano solo (I think it was arranged by Tony Esposito), but it is now out of print. If you come across it, I strongly recommend picking it up. This arrangement, for piano and violin, is...

the closest thing you can get to it, and it, too, doesn't disappoint. This piece has coarser textures than much of John Williams' other works, mixing the occasional screeching dissonance with a sinister but driving triplet rhythm figure. Still, the piano accompaniment maintains a very natural feel and sound to it while posing a challenge to even the most seasoned accompanists. I don't play violin, so I can't speak to the violin arrangement, but with the two instruments played together, this piece is exhilarating and highly recommended.
