This is a high-quality study score. The large format is easy to read. I'm pleased with this purchase. Marquez's piece is a real crowd pleaser and a treat to hear live. As a subject for study, it is a masterpiece, probably The Masterpiece, of its genre. The...

piece is harmonically simple. It builds momentum through increasing complexity in orchestration and in tempo. There is essentially no repetition over its 10-minute length. The rhythm is initially the 2-3 clave de son, which is prominent as a very engaging melody is presented and developed. The clave rhythm is not explicit, for variety, but is suggested, in a driving B section that developes to a strong climax. The initial melody returns. This piece is the best choice for learning how a master composer writes a danzon.
