Cool Blues for Saxophones (Saxophone Section Feature). Composed by James D. Ployhar. Concert Band. Concert Band. Belwin Concert Band. Blues. Grade 3. Conductor Score & Parts. 96 pages. Duration 2:49. Published by Belwin Music (AP.BDM04020).

As the title implies, your saxes will be featured in this snazzy original. You'll think you recognize the melodies but they are all new. It's a great opportunity to feature those zany sax players in concert. (2:49)

A simple arrangement that sounds good. Our sax section is all professional, but they liked the sound. It is fun to play

Nice easy piece for an early intermediate band which will certainly have the audience tapping their toes, but try taking it a little faster than 116 - 120 is better. The middle repeated section is pretty dull though, to be honest, and it improves the piece tremendously if this section is...

rewritten as two solo slots for your two best sax players. One player stands for the first solo then hands over to the second soloist who stands for the repeat, or they could both stand together and the solo could be in the form of a 2 bar 'phrase and answer' each. In any event this treatment of the repeated section really does liven the piece up, and the solos don't have to be difficult to be impressive and show off the budding talent in your band.
