  • March 15, 2007 Good but...

Nice strong scores but not quite what I would call "Concert", or Solo performance arrangements.

I learned some of the hymns from "Concert Transcriptions of Favorite Hymns" from my pinao-teacher mother when I was a teen-ager. My first sacred piano solo was a selection from that book. My mother's copy disintegrated through the years until I had just two complete songs. I...

treasure the spirit of the arranger's reverance and praise to God as well as being able to play these quality hymn arrangements after all these years.

  • November 03, 2001 Beautiful arrangements!

This book was recommended to me by my piano teacher when I was in high school and first began to play in church. I've enjoyed playing from it for nearly 20 years now! The arrangements are of sufficient difficulty to keep one challenged and to "dazzle" those who hear...

them. They are of good length (around 2-4 minutes each), yet can be easily broken into sections if one doesn't need that long a piece (such as playing a short offeratory in a small church). I haven't checked every song, but it seems the orignal key signature of the songs has been retained, so once you've learned the fancy arrangement, you can throw in some of the same "accessories" when you're just playing a straight hymn for congregational singing, without having to worry about changing key. Great for background music and solo performance both!
