Schirmer Performance Editions are designed for piano students and their teachers as well as for professional pianists. Pedagogical in nature, these editions offer insightful interpretive suggestions, pertinent fingering, and historical and stylistic commentary. Prepared by renowned artists/teachers, these publications provide an accurate, well-informed score resource for pianists. Muzio Clementi (1752-1832), a renowned piano teacher in his own day, is today best-known for this set of six Sonatinas, Opus 36. It is a tribute to their inherent musical appeal that, after two centuries, almost anyone who has studied piano knows one or more of these small gems. In these short, sparkling works, all attention is directed to the most basic pianistic concepts: precise phrasing, evenness of touch, and dynamic control. Editor & recording artist: Jennifer Linn

This title has selections that range in difficulty from SMP Level 4-6.

  • March 21, 2009 An Excellent Edition Hands Down

Very few editions of the Clementi Sonatinas, including the other Schirmer editions, are faithful to Clementi's original autograph. This is one of those few that ARE. The notes are easy to read, and the commentary is very useful for piano students. The CD is well-performed, just the way...

Clementi would have wanted it. This work deserves widespread use, better than just about any other edition except the Alfred Masterwork. Congratulations on a job well done!

  • February 11, 2009 Easy to read

I am a beginner at the piano at age 60. This book is very easy to read. The CD lets me know how each Sonatina should sound as I am learning how to play them. There is also background information which tells you what the composer was trying to accomplish...

and what was going on in that period of history.

I ordered the Clementi Sonatinas, Opus 36 for a piano student. She loves the format and the CD is very helpful, especially when determining tempo. Happy student means happy teacher!

  • July 06, 2005 Wow!!! What a wonderful edition!!

This is truly a wonderful edition. It has a beautiful cover, clean notation, interesting historical/performance notes and vanilla colored paper. Just that would have been enough, but I was pleasantly surpised by the professionally recorded C.D. I can't recommend it enough!!
