Clawhammer Style Banjo - A Complete Guide For Beginning And Advanced Banjo Players\| From Ken Perlman, here is a brilliant teaching guide that is destined to become the handbook on how to play the banjo. The style is easy to learn, and covers the instruction itself, basic right and left-hand positions, simple chords, and fundamental clawhammer techniques; the brush, the 'bumm-titty' strum, pull-offs, and slides. For the advanced player, there is instruction on more complicated picking, double thumbing, quick slides, fretted pull-offs, harmonics, improvisation, and more. The book includes more than 40 fun-to-play banjo tunes.

  • April 03, 2006 A great method for learning clawhammer

The book and video combination is excellent. The video is important when you're getting started, but then becomes less so. There's nothing like seeing the techniques of clawhammer. The progression of songs (in tablature) makes sense, and keeps you interested and happy. After a few months of progress...

, the songs are interesting to keep working on for the next few years as your technique and speed improve. Some of the songs are difficult enough to keep you practicing for a long time. I've used the book for my first 3 years of clawhammer, and still haven't finished it. Of course, I'm not a natural musician, and didn't have any other stringed instrument experience, so you may progress much faster. The book has gotten me to the point where I can play with others, without making too much of a fool out of myself.
