Although this book is setup for the guitarist. I have been trying to play some of these old songs on the keyboard and I use this book just as a reference to melody lines, chords, and rhythms. It is not bad a good book for note for note of the...

songs(far as 100%, not sure, not a guitarist. I still listen to the audios of Ventures, etc to get try and duplicate the songs. All in all it is a good book for many the older instrumental songs. I know this doesn't help you guitarists. pianomanDT

Although this is a very good book there are some minor problems. Due to its size (~150pages) and the way it's printed you sometimes have problems reading the last view bits of a bar and it's difficult to persuade it to stay open and not close itself again...

    - I have seen better. Also sometimes the transcribtions are unnecessarily complicated (f.e. Going from third fret to 10th to play an f and than back again to third) but maybe the transcriber wanted to be as close to the original as possible. The song Jessica is not finished, about two minutes before the end it just says "Fade out". Furthermore I didn't like some choice of the songs (f.e. I think the Shadows version of "Ghost Riders in the Sky" is much better than the one in the book) but that is only my opinion. Nevertheless the book offers very good (with the view exceptions I mentioned) transcribtions of great songs. If you always wanted a book filled only with guitar instrumentals, this is the one to buy.

  • December 23, 2007 A must have

This has a great compilation of the classics from Link Wray to Carl Perkins, including short vignettes for each star. The scores are original, with parts for lead and rhythm where indicated. It also shows how to create some of the more difficult chords and effects. My teacher thinks its...

    great.

This is a fun collection of great rock solos from the late 50's and early 60's. Some are pretty easy to play and they sound great, or will with more practice. Fred Sokolow is a great arranger and one of my favorites by him is Fingerpicking Beatles. This...

one is right up there with it. Have fun!
