Clair de lune (from Suite Bergamasque)

Clair de lune (from Suite Bergamasque) composed by Claude Debussy (1862-1918). Arranged by Allan Small. For Piano. Masterworks; Piano Solo; Solo. Simply Classics Solos. Impressionistic; Masterwork Arrangement. SMP Level 8 (Early Advanced). Sheet. 4 pages. Published by Alfred Music (AP.12891).

ISBN 0739010522. Impressionistic; Masterwork Arrangement.

Simplified Masterwork Solo version of one of Debussy's most popular piano works. This ethereal, flowing section of Suite Bergamasque is diatonic and displays a conventional harmonic vocabulary, transposed to the Key of C. The title, Clair de lune, suggests a relationship to Paul Verlaine's eponymous poem, describing a vision of long-dead dancers in the moonlight. The music transmits the otherworldly, transparent, and impalpable qualities of the experience while maintaining clarity and definition. Perfect for the burgeoning late elementary pianist.

  • August 10, 2012 easy to play

This piece is arranged in the Key of C, and, if you are already quite familiar with it, the 'intricate melodies and rhythms' won't be difficult for you. So I wouldn't call it early advanced as labeled, but early intermediate. There are parts of the piece missing, but...

you get a pleasing short version that retains the flavor of the original. I can't play the original version, but could sight read this.

this lovely piece is easy to learn, but much interpretation is possible. as a pianist who had not played for 50 years, this was a pleasure to learn so quickly.

  • June 02, 2007 Beautiful Piece of Music

I played this in the key of C when I was younger and was looking for the sheet music again. I should have known when this one was only 3 pages that it wasn't the entire piece - wish I could find it....
