I found perhaps 1/3 of the arrangements enjoyable. There is a tendancy in all the pieces to sacrifice melody to chord progressions and oft times this falls flat; however there are a handful of pieces that work well in this format and are pleasing on winter evenings this time...

of year (late Nov). As mentioned in one of the other reviews, the chord changes sometimes require large movement and can be ackward but as I only take this book out from early Nov until Christmas it makes for good exercise. The true plus of this book is the notation. It is standard with out tab as any music book should be.

These arrangements are done poorly on the whole. The heavy tendency to have a chord change for every melody note makes it almost impossible to play legato, coupled with the fact that the chord changes themselves are awkward. The harmonic progressions are pretty weak as well.

I really enjoyed this book. For nearly five dollars, it's a steal. I rated it as "early intermediate", but that might be overshooting a little bit. Most of these pieces are pretty easy, albeit a bit "chordy". A lot of them are a page long (with wide spacing). There...

are a few (like Jesu, Joy of a Man's Desiring and Cantique de Noel, aka "Oh Holy Night") were a couple of pages. I'd definately recommend this book. It is great for beginners, but good enough to provide more intermediate and even advanced players with nice arrangements of christmas classics. These aren't super-solos or anything, but they make nice additions to a christmas-gift-cd to your relatives or to play around the christmas tree.
