  • January 01, 2008 It was a SMASH !

A friend told me about using Christma Grace in a high school chorus. I have a church choir that has basically no music readers and the partner song aspect (Away in a Manger/Amazing Grace)cought my attention ! I do have two women who read and have great voices so...

I used them on the Away in the Manger intro and interlude. Very effective! The use of two very familiar songs made it easy for the choir to sound good and feel a real sense of accomplishnent. They loved it, and just as importantly, so did the congregation. Would love to find more pieces like this !!!! I did the organ accompaniment and had a keyboard play the parts with the choir. Again, very effective. Helped the choir but also added a LOT to the overall effect. I rated this as Beginner, but only because it can be adapted to suit choirs like mine. There are certainly parts that enhance the piece but not essential if you have a group with minimal ability. I highly recommend it.

This piece is absolutely amazing! Combining two wonderful songs: Away in a Manger and Amazing Grace works so well for Christmas and is a great reminder of the purpose of the season. Well arranged and not difficult to learn with the already common melodies.
