It was compiled by the composer in order to have interesting music to play as a horn soloist in front of the red kettle at grocery stores for the Salvation Army. Each carol states a simple 1st verse, then adds variations in the 2nd & 3rd verses. This book is ideal for the college-level player or higher, but is manageable by an advanced high school player. The overall range needed of the work is high B-flat to low D (D3), although options to play lower are given. Some of the carols are a great opportunity to develop low range playing.
