Christmas Carols for Flute & Guitar

Christmas Carols for Flute & Guitar composed by Mychal Gendron. For Guitar & Flute. Saddle-stitched, Chamber Music. Editiones Classicae. Christmas. Intermediate. Book/CD Set. 96 pages. Published by Mel Bay Publications, Inc (MB.95656BCD).

ISBN 9780786665747. Christmas. 9 x 13 inches.

This volume contains some of the most popular traditional carols, arranged for flute and guitar. Most of these duet arrangements allow as much dialogue and interplay between the two instruments as possible, while maintaining each carol's character and spirit. While the flute often carries the melody, the guitar has frequent solo passages of its own to help break the "melody with chords" monotony found in many arrangements of this kind. Modulations, imitative counterpoint and quotations from works by well-known composers will, hopefully, make these little pieces enjoyable for performers as well as listeners. For intermediate level flutists and guitarists. Standard notation only.

  • January 28, 2013 GREAT Arrangements for Memorable Performances

Michael Gendron's arrangements of this Christmas music are sure to leave audiences with a memorable music experience. Most of the pieces include sections for solo guitar as interludes. The guitar accompaniment is challenging for beginner and some early intermediate guitarists; however, the CD that comes with the book is...

a great aid in learning each piece of music for those challenged by it.

I love the parts I could play on the flute. Some songs were very easy, but enough were challenging enough for me and fun to play. However, as mentioned in a prior review, the guitar part is complicated. Only the classical notes are there. No chord progressions are written on...

top of the staffs. If you can find a great classical guitar player to accompany you, this book is awesome. Finding the accompanist who can play the guitar part has proven difficult for me.
