Christ Hath a Garden

Christ Hath a Garden (Based on "Waly, Waly"). Composed by English Folk Song. Arranged by Gerald Near. Choir Sacred. For Organ (SATB choir). Choral (Sacred); Choral Octavo; Worship Resources. H.W. Gray. Advent; Communion; Lent; Sacred; Spring; Winter. Grade 3. Choral Octavo. 8 pages. Published by Alfred Music (AP.GCMR03271).

It's easy to see why this beautiful setting of the English folksong Waly, Waly has long been a best-seller in the H.W. Gray catalog. The simplicity of the organ accompaniment combined with the opening and closing unison vocal verses frame the rich harmonies of the introspective third verse, imploring our Master, the Savior, to come.

  • November 24, 2007 Timeless classic, unison with one SATB verse

This text is useful anytime. Since it is a celebration of Christ's gracious life, it can be especially meaningful during Lent or Advent. The gentle tune is familiar. The predominance of unison or canon singing make the piece accessible, and the interjection of a SATB verse adds technical interest...

for the singer and musical interest for the listener. This piece is a gorgeous gem for a SATB choir of any size.
