"Designed to support the lighting of the Advent candles, this includes a choral opening followed by a call and response litany with piano underscore, then a text to be read with the lighting of the candle. As that concludes, the choir comes back in with the option of adding the congregation. The candle lighting portion of your service concludes with the provided prayer. There are five variations, one for each candle. Reproducible parts for the congregation and 7 optional handbells are included. ".

  • January 03, 2015 Advent piece for Candle lighting

Lovely piece - very easy to learn but nice harmony. One verse for each Sunday in Advent + Christmas Eve. After each verse is sung by the choir, an responsive litany is read, while music is lightly played. This can be read by Pastor & choir or Pastor & congregation if responses are put...

in bulletin or on a screen. Then the choir repeats refrain. We also repeated the C. Eve verse for New Year's Eve and Pastor wrote a new Litany. Have done it for 2 years now. Next year will go back to an older one or purchase a new one as Joel Raney continues to write new ones. Even if you don't light an Advent Wreath each Sun. you could still do the piece and leave out that tiny section. Gives a continuity to the Advent Services.

Three dedicated bell ringers, a Pastor, a handful of choir members and a little practice (timing reading to bkgd. music) made this a beautiful, singable opening to our Advent/Christmas Eve services. The congregation gave the musicians positive input, and enjoyed singing this piece. In addition, the pianist took it...

to Switzerland where she and her "adopted" Swiss family performed it for evening mass at a nursing home.
