One of the most important national dances of Poland, the polonaise's majestic and ceremonial character allowed Chopin to express his own patriotism. This volume contains the 16 polonaises Chopin is known to have written, including six youthful works that were published posthumously. All are clearly engraved with footnoted commentary as needed. Pianists familiar with the famous "Military Polonaise" will want to explore the additional masterpieces in this collection. The comb binding creates a lay-flat book that is perfect for study and performance.

    Arcata, CA
    Difficulty Level:
  • April 23, 2010 Easier to Read

This edition is easier to read than most because it lets you easily see what each hand plays. Other editions sandwich right hand and left hand notes on one staff and you have you decipher which notes are to be played with which hand. This edition, however, uses the upper...

staff solely for the right hand, and the lower staff solely for the left hand whenever feasible. The intervals and chords thus appear clear for each hand. The notes are large enough for my aging eyes, and spaced well - adding a page or two to the longer pieces over other editions and yet not adding page turns because each longer piece starts on the left page with a 2 page spread and ends with the same. I also like the spiral binding and the relatively white background. Unfortunately the print quality isn't as sharp as some, so I had to give it 4 stars instead of 5. Improved format though.

What I really like about this book is that it has a binding cover that I can open as wide as I want and it stays in that positions!! It is much better than when you have to fold open the page and sometimes the book closes on you or...

falls while your playing. The Polonaises are powerful pieces and this book contains all of them. Worth the money
