Celtic Music For Flute by Jessica Walsh contains 44 tunes for flute which can be played solo or with a chord instrument. This great collection includes tunes from Scotland, Ireland, England, Wales, and the Isle of Man. The melodies were chosen from more than four hundred years of Celtic music. Most of the pieces have been extended with variations, which make the tunes a more suitable length for performances and are a lot of fun for the flutist to play. In addition, they will introduce the beginner to the joys of improvising in Celtic music, in which ornamenting and augmenting melodies is a tradition.Every tune in the book is included on the digitally mastered CD. Though the tunes are very effective as solo material, Jessica chose to record most of them with guitarist Allan Alexander. Allan has rendered the chords artfully, and the result is a really lovely CD which is a pleasure to listen to. For the player who is new to Celtic music, the recording will give insights into the melodies, and it will allow the flutist who has no access to a chord instrument to hear the harmonic progressions. For those who know and love these wonderful tunes, it will be a joy to hear them played by two musicians who obviously love to play this music together.

This was my first Celtic book, and the whole book is just fun and interesting to play. It's a great book for playing outdoors (busking) in the afternoon and during the night, for family, or as audition pieces. It's one of those books that you'll reach for...

often if you are bored or need an instant crowd-pleaser. The CD is just a complete bonus -- You will learn the songs (almost) instantly if you listen to the CD while reading the music and tap along. There are many opportunities to improvise slightly, lengthen the song, or speed up/slow it down.

The music is fun and beautiful to listen to, but if I want to solo with an accompaniment I have to play with the flutist , too.I play in public a lot and would prefer to do my solos by myself.

This a wonderful compilation of Celtic flute music from all over the British Isles. The author not only gives you the main melody but a variation. The acompanying CD is a nice touch, also.

I LOVE this and my flute instructor does too. The cd is also very helpful.I consider myself an advanced beginner player and I find the music challenging but definitely attainable. The difficulty of the music ranges from adv. beginner to advanced, depending on how fast one plays some of...

the pieces, Most of the pieces fall in the adv. beginner to intermediate range and are a blast to play, if at a slower speed than indicated,

Great Celtic tunes that are well written and arranged. Simple keys with lots of variation of rhythm. Some fairly difficult sections, but doable, and learning these will make you a better player. Mostly written for the mid to lower range of the flute. The CD is nice to listen to...

but not for play along. WAY off key from 440 and one song is played in a different key than the book. That's why I only rate four stars.
