    Metro New York City area
    Difficulty Level:
  • December 02, 2011 Just awful

I used the "original" edition of this show when I was the pit pianist for an amateur production in 1973. The notation font was easy on the eyes and printed on good paper. This edition is terrible. It is poorly written for piano, uses a tiny font, and is printed...

on the cheapest paper imaginable. I only bought it because nothing else is available and I wanted it for my collection. The original score of "Oklahoma!" remains untouched. This score should have as well. Why oh why could you not have offered two editions of "Carousel" if the organization was so intent on the revision? I wouldn't want to conduct from this score.Waste of money and a real disappointment.

    New York, NY
    Difficulty Level:
  • June 25, 2002 CAROUSEL: The real thing!

This Revised Edition of CAROUSEL is not a revision of Rodgers & Hammerstein's original work.It is a restoration of the Broadway production as it was first presented under R&H's supervision in 1945. The earlier version of this vocal score excluded the instrumentation and most of the embellishement...

assigned to the score by Rodgers, Trude Rittman and prinicipal orchestrator, Don Walker in 1945. This newly Revised Edition has been created from the original manuscripts and orchestra parts in the R & H Archive and is a far truer telling of the score than has ever been available. (The original pit orchestra of CAROUSEL had 40 playeres in it!) But don't just take my word for it. Find a copy and explore Rodgers & Hammerstein' masterpiece in a way that has never before been possible.
