  • November 18, 2008 Great piece, very challenging

Superb and very fun piece and very easy to read, unlike many other versions of this piece out there. Definitely for the advanced player or can be used as a practice piece for the rising student. The best "show piece" for the trumpet out there.

Be aware, this version "revised and rearranged" by Leidzen is not at all the same as the original Arban version. The trumpet part is the same, but the accompaniment has been completely redone, and the introduction is a different length. If that matters to you, avoid this edition.

recommend this to any trumpet player who is willing to work hard and go the distance. Good Luck!

  • April 06, 2001 Soloists Dream

After getting the Arban and looking at this piece my very first thoughts were that I would never play this piece. However, after careful practice, this must be one of the most popular and most rewarding of Cornet solos. Though technically very difficult in places, especially the final variation, after...

many hours of practice it is not, in fact, as hard as first thought. Arban has arranged it and the variations beautifully with plenty of difficulties. I particularly found the triple tonguing variation very tiring at first, and still do unless practiced regularly. Though it is a very difficult piece, if taken slowly at first and built up there is plenty of enjoyment for the player and, later, the audience in this very rewarding solo.
