Pablo de Sarasate was not only a great violinplayer but a composer as well and because of that it´s quite logic that the violin plays an important role in his work. The Carmen Fantasy, together with Zigeunerweisen, is probably his best known piece. In this composition de Sarasate uses the material of Bizet's Carmen in an excellent way. In this transcription the Violin solo part can also be played by a flute.
