One of my piano students asked her parents for "Canon" for Christmas; they got her this arrangement. She is only a beginning student, and after learning the 1st page of 10 she realized she was in way over her head; she asked me to play the remaining 9 pages (after...

she played the 1st) at my annual spring piano recital, which I agreed to. I have seen/played at least 2 other piano trans./arr. of Pachelbel's "Canon" (originally for 3 violins & basso continuo); both are much easier to play than this one -- but this one is truer to the original & contains more of the original's themes in quasi-canonic form than the others. The downside is that several pages of this arr. are fiendishly difficult. I spent several hours practicing it & could have used many hours more to get it up to a decent tempo so that it wasn't so long & drawn out. It is definitely for an advanced player who doesn't mind working hard -- but I believe it is worth the effort for someone who loves the piece.

I didn't think it was possible to mess up Canon in D, but this arrangement is absolutely terrible. Don't waste your time and money!
