Bridge over Troubled Water

Choral (SATB)
Composed by Paul Simon. Arranged by Kirby Shaw. Shawnee Press. Choral, Graduation, Popular Standards/Show Tunes. 12 pages. Shawnee Press #A1906. Published by Shawnee Press (HL.35002413).

Item Number: HL.35002413

Kirby Shaw's phenomenal arrangement of this Simon & Garfunkel hit ballad is contemporary choral writing at its finest! The light, harmonic a cappella opening is contrasted with this soaring fresh gospel-style setting that holds opportunities for improvisation from multiple soloists. This is an excellent choice for a pops concert or graduation. Available separately: SATB, SAB, TTBB, SSA, Show Band Orchestration, StudioTrax A/P CD.

The concert choir at my school sang this and I loved how this arrangement gave each part a time to shine, considering most of the year the songs we sang didn't really show the ability of the tenors, and great solos

    Difficulty Level:
  • June 02, 2004 Moving standing ovation material

Watched a small but very talented high school swing choir perform this for 2004 graduation with a brass and rhythm section. The speech theme was about how the graduates had overcome adversity by sticking together through difficult and good times. So the performance of this piece was very moving, upbeat...

, and a standing ovation eliciting--talk of the town musical summation of their graduation theme.

    Difficulty Level:
  • May 02, 2002 Gospel-Style "Bridge"

I am presently a choral member of the Tempe Community Chorus. I have been singing for over 30 years now. I like almost any kind of music. I love Simon & Garfunkel, so, I was excited to do this song. This piece was hard to do because we were already use...

to the version we heard on the radio. This one is more gospel style, so the rhythm is different. Even the solo part is different enough that it is difficult not to go back to singing the comfortable notes, but this is a very nice version of the song. This is the second time I have performed this. Good clapping song!
