This CD allows listeners to familiarize themselves with Boccherini's original scoring, as opposed to the previous recording containing arrangements for keyboard and piano quartet. This selection of work is full of surprises, including the composer's use of Spanish folk music. Boccherini's diverse palette ranges from sweet melodies to abrupt conclusions, which seamlessly flow into one another. Italian group Ensemble Symposium focuses on historically informed performance practice. They have already completed two well-received recordings for Brilliant Classics.
