This book gives you plenty of examples of licks which work in each and every bar of a 12 bar blues progression. They sound good and certainly give you plenty of finger exercise. I haven't yet tried stringing 12 together to make a complete 12 bar solo. I would...

have preferred some explanation about why each lick works where it does but I guess this would have made the book bigger and more exspensive.

The backing tracks are great. Chris Hunt, Thank You! I have been looking for a book like this for years. It gives you many options for the solos over the backing tracks. It has helped apply knowledge of scales, how you can play a solo over different cords. Excellent!

"Blues By The Bar" has a quality backing track and the sections are well structured so that early intermediate to intermediate students can play the work. My students love it !

I AGREE WITH ALAN FROM CALGARY.HOWEVER,I RATED THIS BOOK ADVANCED,THE FIRST FEW LICKS ARE EASY BUT THEN THEY GET HARDER AND BECOME A CHALLENGE.THE INTERMEDIATE WILL FIND THIS BOOK DIFFICULT.

This book has helped me immensely. It pushed me over my plateau and has enabled me to actually make my pentatonics sound like something.
