Blue Bells of Scotland is one of the mayor works for trombone virtuoso and piano. For me, a trombonist at the second year of conservatory, is a fantastic table for study technic, and develop a great sense for phrasing. The variations are complete and so must difficult (so the second...

and the third) because the coordination with hand and mouth is so hard. Blue Bells is a fantastic piece. The best versions are from: Ian Bousefield, Jean Alessi and Jaques Mauger.

  • May 20, 2008 Fabulous Oldie!

Goes back to Arthur Pryor, who was a contemporary of Sousa's. Pryor made this famous. Wow! What a piece!

  • April 28, 2007 A Staple in the Trombone Solo Repertoire

One of the most well-known "theme-variations" piece for trombone. Because of its demand for range, (4 octaves and a 3rd) and stamina, it is a great test for trombone players who want to go from good to great. My only qualm is how it tends to drag on...

. The cadenza also could be written better. However, a fine work by the pen of Sousa trombone soloist Arthur Pryor! Highly recommended!

  • July 23, 2006 Absolutely Amazing

I have played my fair share of Variation Solos, and this one by far takes the cake. I agree, it is probably one of the most beatiful pieces I have ever played. It is definately worth it to buy and have in your own music library.
