Fantastic to read the sheet music of this ground-breaking Miles Davis/Mulligan session. The score includes the parts of each instrument, therefore the album is not meant for solo pianists. But anyone who wants to really enjoy the Birth Of The Cool pieces, or wants to get better acquainted...

with them, can do no better than buy this album.

  • October 29, 2011 Buy this!

This was better than I had expected it could ever be. Beautifully typeset, it has all the parts on individual staves, and the original solos from the recording in cue-note sized notes. As if that wasn't enough, "Joost at the Roost" is also included, which was not issued...

    on disc.

  • July 12, 2007 Jazz History Preserved

The documentation of these historical jazz scores means that students of jazz can study, relive and replay, an important limb to the jazz tree - an outgrowth of Be-Bop. The transition from Swing to Be-Bop, during the post-war years and into the 1950's marks an critical period...

for the modern jazz musician and has yield a wealth of music that will influence American Jazz for generations to come. These scores accurately represent a part of that experiment that didn't get acknowledged during its creation, but by powerful influence lead to a movement known as the "Cool School," which spawned the "West Coast Jazz" style.
