I am a terrific fan Beethoven. I am enamoured of Franz Liszt's transcription of the Beethoven Symphonies 1 - 9. I while back I heard Glen Gould No. 6 "Pastorale" and fell in love with it. I just had to have a recording of Mr. Gould playing this piece which...

I did indeed purchase. I am as of this time unable to play this wondrous music but wanted very much to see its' composition. Dover Publications has done a wonderful presentation of these magnificent pieces and I am greatly appreciative of Sheet Music Plus for having this quality music within their inventory! Those who now capable of taking on this series of masterpieces with find the presentation nicely laid out. many thanks, Bob M.

The transcriptions by Franz Liszt are extremely complete in terms of voices from the orchestral score. For the pianist, this means lots and lots of notes to play ! And many voices to conduct at the same time. Often Liszt uses one extra staff (or two or three ...) to indicate with...

the maximum of clarity the various voices to play. Hours and hours of hard work in perspective but the result is worth the pain.

if you buy the book like it is you can take it to the office supplies store called Staples and they can make it spiral bound for you.

Understand that this is a reproduction, albeit a pretty good one, of the original publication from the 19th Century, and the print is a bit on the small side. The intermediate pianist will be stretched extensively learning these works. Franz Liszt was attempting to put every voice of the orchestra...

into the piano notes. Some of the fingering is maddeningly complex, and Liszt's infrequent fingering notations are often meant for someone else's hands, not yours. Be prepared to make some revisions, especially if you have smaller hands. Recommendation: track down the Leslie Howard recordings on CD of these piano works if you want to be inspired about learning to play this remarkable music. My only serious criticism is that the sheet music is not available in a spiral binding. That would make it easier to learn and play. Turning pages on this perfect bound book is awkward as the pages rarely stay flat.

The guy was fenomenal! Of course, his hands were humongous and not everybody can do what he did at the piano. Many times the music is way too crowded because he wanted to include as many notes as possible from the Symphonies. it not an easy read, but it's...

    a great transcription.
