  • July 16, 2007 bad piano arrangements

This collection is unplayable on the piano. The Beatles would be appalled that someone would create such poor, misguided arrangements of their songs.

  • March 14, 2007 Non-pianistic accompaniments.

I have the sheet music for ten Beatles numbers, bought some thirty years ago when still published by Northern Songs. I am used to the "bad grammar" of popular music scores (a chord of C# major is written when writing it as Db major makes music sense). However in these...

new versions, the kind of syncopations that one would do naturally according to the words or our memories of the songs (eg. holding a note just over the beat, or turning three notes into a triplet to fit the words) have been written out soemwhat pedantically. This makes the music outrageously difficult to sight read (although I am an advanced pianist). I can read the Northern Songs version and read the lyrics at the same time but, with the Hal Leonard version, I have to keep stopping to work out quite what is happening - and why! Even when played absolutely as written the accompaniments sound ghastly. (I think some of the harmonisations are suspect). A total waste of money.

  • November 21, 2006 Worth getting two

I bought this for my daughter, we haven't stopped playing and singing from it for days, I've come back to the site to get a second one for my sister. So we like it. Some of the arrangements are great for piano (Across the Universe, Michelle, In My...

Life, Here Comes the Sun), others don't work so well but it's still good to have the lyrics.

  • October 16, 2005 Great For Beatles Fans

This is a great book for fans, but can get confusing if you don't already know the songs. Some songs (such as Penny Lane) sound a little off, but its mostly pretty accurate. It's good enough to use on stage, yet fun for people who just like to...

mess around on a guitar or piano. The bass lines are RIGHT ON! So yeah, this is definately worth your money.
