The bagpipe is not like other instruments (e.g. the saxophone or the clarinet) which sound outside the person who plays them, at a certain distance from the body. The bagpipe, sticks to the player, surrounds them and is almost a party of their body. The bag is under the right arm, against the chest and can feel as if it were an extension of the player's lungs. The chanter sound in front, played with all ten fingers, the bass drone on the shoulder, sounding behind the back with the treble drone to the left, with the player in the middle as an integral part of the instrument. Pepe Romero, head of an outstanding family of folk musicians has been playing the bagpipe since he was twelve years old. He is known today, as one of the best bagpipers in Galicia. He has written extensive bagpipe repertoire and influenced his three sons to become bagpipe players as well. The repertoire on this album, based on self-composed themes with clear, unmistakable and genuine roots in the Galician usical tradition, is another aspect that gives a very special character to this group. The authorship lies mainly with the director of the group, but also now and then with his sons, and even his wife, who composed the piece "Laxetos de paxaro" when only thirteen years old. The lyrics have folk roots, wtih some adaptations made by Maruxa.
