I am completely obsessed with the movie and the ship in general. I had taken piano for 3 years when I was young, and the teacher never taught me how to read music, then when I was in 6th grade I learned to play flute in the band, therefore learning...

how to play tremble cleff. I retaught myself how to play bass, and voila! The Portrait is simply beautiful! Exactly like the movie if you play it right. The reprise at the end of the book is honestly the second most beautiful piece in it all. Nearer My God to Thee is just beautiful as well. I recommend it even to beginners. It's inspiration to work harder so the piece because playable with ease...

  • May 13, 2008 Just like the movie!

I ordered this music for my daughter that has been playing piano for 3 years. In the movie "Titanic" they play the theme on piano during the drawing of the portrait. My daughter loved the way it sounded and wanted music that was written for piano, not written for other...

instruments and arranged for piano -- this has not let her down!

  • July 24, 2007 "The Portrait" about 90% there

The sheet music does not match the music in the movie, although very close. The notes are mostly correct, but once you learn the music, you have to adjust the timing of the notes to match the version in the movie. There are some obvious missing notes also. It just...

depends how determined you are to play exactly what's in the movie, or if the sheet music version is satisfying enough.

  • January 03, 2007 Wonderful music

I have memorized The Portrait, and played a few other songs from this book, and I must say, I love this music. I can;t enough from playing The Portrait. And its the exact same solo that Horner plays on the "Back to Titanic soundtrack." Save for one little detail...

, but if I could figure it out, I'm sure anyone can. I get so many compliments when I play this music from my friends, family, and just other people. When I first learned The Portarit, I played it over and over agin to get it right while i swas living in Oklahoma. Now, whenever I go back to visit, my old friends demand this piano solo, among others. You simply MUST have this music. You will love it.

  • November 25, 2006 Simply breathtaking, as "Titanic" is

This book is absolutely wonderful! All of the pieces are beautiful, and I was more than satisfied with it once purchased. "Nearer My God to Thee" and "Come Josephine in My Flying Machine" were just so wonderful to have. But, "The Portrait" is just the most beautiful piece that I...

have ever heard for solo piano, or any piece alone. Just buying this book for "The Portrait" is worth it. As always, James Horner amazes me with his gorgeous composing skills. This score most definitely deserved the Oscar it received.
