I am a freshman in high school and I play Bach. Who cares about when you're "supposed" to play it, who cares about when you're "supposed" to play anything. In my opinion, everybody makes to big a deal about "oh you have to play this because you are...

this old" and "oh this is this grade" and bla bla bla. This music is tough but not advanced and it's not like Liszt or anything like that. It's accessible to high school students ( the 2part ones to middle schoolers).

    Vernon, CT
    Difficulty Level:
  • December 14, 2009 Outstanding Student Edition

This is perhaps the best student edition of the Bach Inventions on the market. The text of the music is from reliable, authentic sources. The editing uses grey print for all editorial additions. Ornaments are properly explained and are in keeping with Bach's instructions for how to play his...

music. The fingering is reliable and practical for students. The CD performance is a superior rendition that demonstrates the proper performance of Bach's music. There just isn't anything wrong with this publication! A great idea is to have the student purchase both this edition and a good urtext, such as Henle, Peters (Landschaft), Vienna Urtext, or Barenreiter. The student can study this edition to learn the performance techniques and ornaments, but then learn to play from the unedited music of the urtext. If you can only afford one edition, this is the one to get! Only the new Schirmer Performing edition even comes close.

We liked the title, were surprised to see a plastic almost-spiral binding, but as the piano teacher said it makes it easier to keep it open on the music stand.

    Difficulty Level:
  • March 13, 2008 Bach is hard

This is a good book and explains trills and rythms and other musical challenges right there on the page for you in a simply and easy manner. But Bach itself is not easy. I would not recommend this book or any bach unless you are with a private professional piano...

teacher. Remember, Bach is meant for right before college and is an advanced level. Also, Your not suppost to be able to sight read Bach the first time perfect so, don't get up set.
