Ave Maria Gratia Plena" is a poem written by Oscar Wilde. For this poem, it's important to know that "Ave Maria Gratia Plena" is latin for "Hail Mary Full of Grace", the first words of a Catholic prayer that ask the blessed mother of Jesus to pray for us sinners. This poem is directed to Florence, his first love. He is calling her an angel and asking if Jesus sent her to him. In this poem, the poet uses Danae & Semele, both from Classical Greek mythology as hidden meanings. As we all know, in the bible, Jesus is conceived through Virgin Mary and in Classical Greek mythology, and Perseus, whom the mother is Danae is also conceived through this way, with the Greek god Zeus, transforming as a shower of golden rain and into her womb.  As for Semele,  because she loves Zeus, thus asks Zeus to show himself to her as proof of his love and is struck to death via the lighting bolt.
