    Montgomery, NY
    Difficulty Level:
  • August 13, 2011 29 chances to play like Virgil

This book is great fun to own and work on the music therein, especially if you grew up loving how Virgil Fox played the organ. If you are a church organist you will find lots of the things usable.

Appealing choice of music useful for preludes, offertories, and postludes. An especially good selection of Christmas music is included in this book.

    Difficulty Level:
  • July 22, 2008 A "best of" collection

An anthology of 29 pieces. Most (all?) of these were published as sheet music by H. W. Gray. They appear to be the "originals," not newly engraved. All are Fox's version of works by other composers, and his own arrangements of well-known traditional carols or hymns. Need an...

organ version of the "Star Spangled Banner?" It's in here. Inevitably there's a surprise in a collection of this type: For this writer it's Fox's arrangement of "Simple Gifts," commissioned by Contemporary Keyboard magazine upon the 80th birthday of Aaron Copland. Very refreshing.

    Difficulty Level:
  • March 04, 2008 Better than expected

From the beginning, these arrangements are excellent and can be perhaps a little challenging, though not unduly so for the advanced organist. Excellent selections and variety. A real pleasure. Would recommend to all intermediate to advanced organists.

    Difficulty Level:
  • September 10, 2007 Great Book with no cut outs

I bought this book thinking it would be close to the original scores that Virgil had. Well to my surprise this book was exactly the same even when compared to the actual recording.
