Ashokan Farewell (from "The Civil War")

Ashokan Farewell (from "The Civil War") composed by Jay Ungar. Arranged by Dan Coates. For easy solo piano. Piano Solo - Popular Sheet; Solo. TV. SMP Level 4 (Intermediate). Sheet. 8 pages. Published by Alfred Music (AP.PC0283).

From the PBS series, "The Civil War," comes a haunting folk melody which has been arranged here for "Easy Piano" by Dan Coates. It is a slow work, in C Major, ¾ time, to be played "with expression," sometimes using a wide range of the keyboard, with simple broken chord and short running eighth-note patterns in the accompaniment.

  • February 22, 2012 Beautiful, haunting, easy arrangement

I play at an early advanced level. Dan Coates rated this as *easy*, but the way he arranged it brings out the haunting melody without the *empty* feel of an easy to play. I watched the movie on TV many years ago and could not get the melody out of...

my head for a long time. I gave away most of my music and my piano when we moved to Hawaii. Now I have another keyboard, and just had to get this song.

The process isn't difficult because it's such a beautiful melody even while you're learning it. It's not too hard - early intermediate with excellent result sure to impress your friends and family once learned. It sounds so Civil War era which tugs at my heart strings. I...

'd even buy a more difficult version if it were available. You'll love it - buy it!
