Windependence – Apprentice, Novice (Grade 1.5-2)

Here is a fresh, contemporary-sounding piece that “painlessly introduces middle level students to syncopation.” Commissioned by high school band director Stephen Kraus (holder of the Guinness world record for longest parade march), As Winds Dance is an enjoyable breeze. (2:00).

This song was rated very easy on JWPepper and I completely disagree. The 1st clarinet and the flute ranges are very high and the reviews are misleading. The rhythm is catchy and my 6th graders enjoy the piece but don't be fooled. The first clarinet range is way over...

    the break in this one.

  • February 05, 2007 Great way to start music.

I am a personal friend of Mr. Kraus and when we taught me in my elementary school I had the pleasure of being part of the first band to perform and premiere this piece of music. I would recommend this for elementary level students just grasping the concept of music...

and would recommend any other pieces of work by Mr. Kraus or Mr. Hazo.
