The flowing sound of the melody is sung, then played on recorder behind a musical background that uses gentle mallet parts and unique percussive sounds to represent forest elements. This work gives young students a chance to explore how sounds can paint a musical picture and create a mood that transports both the performer and the listener to a far away land. When programmed with other more energetic works, Arirang creates a nice contrast, giving the audience a calming breath of fresh air. For grades 4 thru 6. Instructional notes are provided.
