  • January 06, 2009 a good starter book

A good book if your ear hasn't really developed yet and you're struggling to work out the riffs and solos, but overall the transcriptions are over-simplifed. Huge sections of certain songs are simply omitted and many of the songs are transcribed as simplified single-guitar versions, ignoring...

Iommi's layering of riffs and doubling-with-variations approach to soloing. Which somewhat misses the point, I think. But there are a lot of songs here and the transcriptions are probably enough to get you listening to the records more closely and figuring out the details for yourself.

  • June 16, 2007 It's OK

There are some pretty good songs in this book but they tabbed some of them wrong. Tony Iommi Plays most songs on the A & E strings but the book has them with the A & D strings. It's Ok.

I was happy with the accuracy of the transcriptions. To the guy who wrote that it doesnt mention to down tune, read the small little print. The more well known songs liek iron man, paranoid and others where fully transcribed but lots of the really good ones are missing parts...

liek the second solo from snowblind, and the last part or under the sun/everyday comes and goes. if you want to the the fundamental sabbath get it. i am very happy and so are my friends.

  • November 01, 2004 Better than nothing

The good part about this book is that it covers a lot of songs that are not available in any other books. an example of this is Under the Sun/Everyday Comes and Goes--this coda of this song is completely missing. The bad part about this book is that...

the transcriptions are severely edited and the transcriptions are not perfect. Be that as it may, it is better than nothing when it comes to giving you a basic idea of how to play some of their more obscure songs. The transcriptions are not bad in some places, but the overall quality is rather low.

These tabs are good. The only thing to beware of is to tune down your guitar for many of the songs. The book doesn't tell you that so it gets 4 stars.
