Organ or piano accompaniments are provided in two different keys so as to offer trumpet players a choice of using either Bb or C trumpet while still allowing the player to stay in the written key of C. Opening with a brief fanfare, the trumpet soloist quickly moves to a straightforward rendering of the melody accompanied by running eighth notes in the keys. When the keyboard takes over the tune, the trumpet performs a fanfare-like obbligato that culminates in an impressive coda. Well-suited for Christmas programs of all types and for church services. Intro revised in 2016. Top trumpet range is written A above the staff with an optional Bb and C at the end.
