http://www.sheetmusicplus.com/title/alleluia-sheet-music/691077

SATB choir - Moderately Difficult
Composed by Randall Thompson (1899-1984). Easter, General. Octavo. 12 pages. Published by E.C. Schirmer Publishing (EC.1786).

Item Number: EC.1786

Perhaps the most often performed American choral work. The millions of copies sold since its composition in 1940 for the opening exercises of Tanglewood (the summer home of the Boston Symphony) attest to its endurance. Complete text: Alleluia. Amen.

Thompson's "Alleluia" stirs my soul every time I perform or hear it performed. I'm not a "religious" person but this piece of music is as close to "heaven" as I hope to come. I began singing in choruses in 1945 at the age of 15 and am still...

singing. The Thompson "Alleluia" and the Wilhousky arrangement of the "Battle Hymn of the Republic" remain my favorites.

This piece truly can be one of the most beautiful songs written, and it brings tears to my eyes and shivers up my spine every time I sing it or hear it sung.

Unlike huge triumphal alleluias, I find that the quiet and mystical beginning and ending are very appropriate to the mystery of the resurrection, which is why I like to use this rather than the standard Handel Chorus on Easter Sunday. There are about 3 high A's for the tenor...

for which one might ask an Alto to sub in for at that point. While complicated looking, there is a lot of serial and parallel movement which simplifies learning this composition. In short it is a gorgeous composition well worth learning and belongs in an accomplished choir's repertoire.
