Item Number: HL.44005558
ISBN 9043121789. Play Along. 9x12 inches.

This is a wonderful collection of Klezmer music, inspired by the Jewish dances and songs of the klezmorim from Eastern Europe: from the lyrical Hora to the fast, compelling Freilach. Also audible is the influence of more recent Israeli folk music a la Giora Feidman. Some of the pieces have a second part ad libitum – for laying together or for variation in a repeat. For the accompaniment, chord symbols have been added, and on the enclosed CD there are complete versions as well as play-along versions of all pieces, played live by genuine Klezmer musicians.

  • der Mirjambrunnen - After an old fairytale
  • Odoms Nechome - Adam's comfort
  • Tates Freilach - Freilach for father

  • Nanis Vals - A Waltz for Nani
  • Stempenjus Fiedel - A famous Yiddish fiddler

I was disappointed that the solo instrument was clarinet and not violin, as I was led to believe. However, each tune has a charm of its own and is a delight to play. The accompaniment only part of the CD gives violinists plenty of scope to experiment and put their...

own stamp on the tune. Alternative notes given in the melody could provide some effective duets. I intend to put this into practice with my flautist friend.

  • November 12, 2009 CD For clarinet, not for violin

I like this music, and the CD. The only problem (and this is why you get only three start from me) is that the solist performing in the CD is a clarinet, not a violin. So, although you can get an idea about how the music should sound, you miss...

a real example of the interpretative finesse required on your instrument.

  • March 09, 2007 It is important to hear folk styles played

Music books that include a CD are a fairly recent boon to the music student and they have flourished. It is imperative to hear a style played by those who are immersed in the tradition. "All Time Klezmers" is a prime example of music that must be heard before there...

are attempts to play it. I recommend this book/CD for the content and because there is a dearth of the style in print. They have done a great job in choosing and presenting the material.
