Alfreds Basic Guitar book 1 is a great book for beginner guitar. I trusted the Alfred name having purchased other Alfred books in the past. I suggest using a teacher, though at first if you are truly beginner as I was and had NO formal or musical training in the...

This book is perfect for a person who is learning to play the guitar. It tells you what string and what fret to use. On the inside back cover has a chart of assorted chords in all keys and modes (i.e. major, minor, seventh, etc.).

This is the book I learned from when I took guitar lessons oh so many years ago, and now I'm using it to teach my kids. It's still the best step by step book to learn guitar that I have seen.

  • August 12, 2004 Great for kids and adults

I am primarily a piano teacher, but do also teach guitar, and this is a wonderful instructional book. It starts with just the 1st string (high E), and builds up to all 6 strings, adding one at a time. There is a great amount of and a variety of music...

in this book, including: Jingle Bells, Happy Birthday to You, Amazing Grace, and La Bamba, as well as plenty of original '50's - style rock songs. Also, there are small black-and-white photographs showing the finger position on the guitar neck. These are most helpful! One thing to note: the notes are pretty small, so if larger print is desired, you may want to consider other books. But, all in all, a wonderful book for ages 8 to adult.
