Just what I was looking for. I have, in the past, done a considerable amount of playing by chord, on both piano and organ, but have been trying the difficult (for me) transition to reading the bass cleff. I had worked through several of my children's Leila Fletcher books...

, which taught me well- but the music was so boring to adult ears. This gives me songs I will play with pleasure even after I have learned the principles they teach.

I returned back to piano lessons after 37 years. So far I've been enjoying the two songs that I've learned in the book. I'm looking forward to progessing in the book. It has a lot of fun songs to play!

I'm an adult student currently using this book. The selections aren't as good as in book 1. Book 2 contains alot of jazz and blues selections, not my favorite music style. Still, an excellent course for adults or teenagers just beginning to play that don't want to...

    start with childish music.

  • November 01, 2007 Excellent course for adults

I would definitely recommend the Alfred course for Adults. I started learning piano this year at the age of 36, and I finished the first two books of Alfred's Adult Beginner course in less than five months with no instructor. If you have a little music background (I was...

in high school band), and the patience and determination, this course will be exactly what you need. I am currently on Level 3 of this series where the going is much slower, and I can't believe how far I've come after only 7 months. There is a coherent, logical progression from one lesson to the next. The music is fun and challenging without being intimidating to a beginner. Alfred's has saved me from having to learn from a children's songbook.
