  • February 17, 2012 American Songbook Nobility?

No, America doesn't elevate our artists to any level of higher social station and we are way too free with the "superstar" or "genius" label for our pop entertainment celebs, but now and then the cream does rise to the top. Those great, beautifully crafted lyrics that bypass the...

brain filter and go right to your heart are usually crafted by this "royal" couple. They have found the secret that all serious lyricists look for, a way to turn simple story telling into a spiritual experience. Singers who perform their work are profoundly moved and project that rapport to their audience creating a tsunami of emotion that, when ended, leaves a wash of warm feeling in its wake.

The songs are obviously first rate. However, because of the sophisticated harmonics, the arrangements are written in minor keys which makes them difficult to play for those without a lot of experience reading music. Probably easier for those that only read the melody line...me, I read the notes so...

I have had to work a little harder to master the songs. But, well worth the extra effort
