  • March 23, 2013 A fantastic piece that needs practice!

I performed this piece as part of a school House Singing competition last year. I had listened to the King's Singers' version of this song and loved it, so decided to replicate it as much as possible with my all -male group of six. Learning the piece is easy...

enough, provided you have a strong alto/countertenor lead, since many of the notes overlap between the parts. The challenge is making sure people came in at the time time, since there are several stops and starts in the piece and we had no conductor. Also, the sheet music does differ slightly from the King's Singers' version and more resembles the original by Neil Young because of the lack of dotted notes. That said, this was nonethless a fairly easy and, once we had got it right, hauntingly beautiful piece to perform, and the audience seemed very appreciative.
