A prole do bebê no. 1

A prole do bebê no. 1 composed by Heitor Villa-Lobos (1887-1959). Edited by David P. Appleby. For Piano. Masterworks; Piano Solo; Solo. Alfred Masterwork Edition. 20th Century; Masterwork. Early Advanced. Book. 56 pages. Published by Alfred Music (AP.4888).

ISBN 0739080369. 20th Century; Masterwork.

This suite of eight pieces portrays the ethnic or folk character of a child's dolls, drawing freely on national folk tunes. The set is edited by the Villa-Lobos scholar David P. Appleby, who was honored by the Brazilian government with the Villa-Lobos Centennial Medal for his outstanding research into the life and music of the composer. Each piece has its own unique, sharply drawn character and is sure to appeal with an abundant degree of rhythmic sophistication.

  • March 29, 2008 Great Pieces

The pieces in this volume are wonderful and deceptively difficult. I recommend it for any pianist who wants to branch out from the typical Brahms, Chopin, Beethoven, etc. piano music. Villa-Lobos at his best is just as good as the well-known greats. Check out Ginastera, too. The music...

is easy to read--the notes are not cluttered or anything--which is helpful for someone who has little to no experience with piano music like this. However, the editor has left out a few accidentals here and there.
