9x12 inches.

Klezmer music originated in the villages and ghettos of eastern Europe, where itinerant Jewish troubadours (known as klezmorim) performed at weddings and other celebrations since the early Middle Ages. Lyrics were a part of klezmer as far back as the 16th century, but the term gradually became synonymous with instrumental music, particularly featuring the violin and clarinet. In recent years it has regained in popularity, and A Klezmer Karnival incorporates three contrasting traditional tunes in a suite that will bring a true “karnival” atmosphere to any concert.

  • April 20, 2008 Awesome piece for many levels

Klezmer Karnival is a truly exciting piece for musicians from the junior high to college level. As a band director, this is one of the most exciting pieces i have discovered in the past few years --- students LOVE it and it's difficulty is based primarily upon how fast you...

decide to take the tempi. Klezmer Karnival is just plain FUN and audiences love it. Note: The piece is published as being level 2 1/2 but it's really more of a 3. This is a great challenge for good middle school and junior high groups, and a nice, straightforward piece for high school and college players (you can really push the tempi with older players). Also be aware that the clarinet, trumpet, and trombones are split into only two parts rather than the customary three.
