Flute quartet - Grade 3+
Composed by Catherine McMichael. Artist of the Quarter. Duration 12:30. Published by Alry Publications (AY.FQ-15).

Item Number: AY.FQ-15

Four Gaelic pieces in the traditional style; rowdy, raw, rambunctious when fast, achingly personal when slow. Movements are entitled Rose Cottage, The Doubtful Wife, Lake Solace, and Describe a Circle, a jig. Scored for 4 flutes, this is also ideal for flute choir. This music is meant to be enjoyed like country cooking - with gusto! For recording, see item number R-9.

  • April 18, 2013 Wonderful Music

Our group have been playing these pieces for a while now and each movement has a charature of its own. We worked at them and it took time to pull the parts together, but it was worth the effort. We have played them in concerts, for a wedding and in...

  • March 15, 2010 nice piece.. difficult to coordinate

We played this for solo and ensemble festival last year (we are a high school flute quartet - one freshman, one sophomore, and 2 juniors). It was very difficult to coordinate the strange runs but other than that it was very good and gives each flute a chance to shine, not...

    just the first player.

  • September 24, 2008 Beautiful harmonies

All 4 parts are of roughly equal difficulty, which makes this quite fun to play for everyone, even 4th flute. The harmonies are great, and the melody is passed around to all flutes.

  • June 26, 2008 a romp

Played this for an evening of ensembles community service event - it went over very well. Lively, colorful, great flute sound combination. One of our band brass players said he's not keen on flute ensembles due to the sound, but loved this piece, he didn't know 4 flutes playing...

    together could sound this good!
