I wasn't too fond of this one. I like Fingerpicking Christmas better, it has easier arrangements. Also, it's just my opinion, but I don't like the arrangements of most of the songs. Silent Night and O Little Town of Bethlehem are by far the best. Regarding the...

rest, I don't like the key or the harmony choices. I like the fact it included Ave Maria (Becuase I play Midnight Mass at a Catholic Church every year), but I wish it was in D instead of C with the original arpegiated chords in the beginning. Running those intro chords in C, it's much more difficult to keep a steady C-bass note going under the arppegios. This is also not really a beginner's book unless you just want to strum chords.

  • October 25, 2009 Best Christmas collection

There are no "filler" pieces in this book. All songs are known and frequently requested traditional Christmas carols. Possibly the best intermediate collection of carols I've found. I recommend this book once students master Hal Leonard's "Fingerpicking Christmas" book because it elaborates on carols already learned and usually...

in the same key. Each piece is highly singable but also stands alone as a guitar solo. For the dedicated student these should be a quick study. Start in November and you'll have the whole book down by December 25th!

  • January 07, 2009 good book

Good book because it provide 3 ways to play a song: basic chords, classical method, or mellody. I generally figure out my own way to play a song. It has all the basic church and a few traditional holiday songs - thus a good selection. I play for a nursing home...

and the residents really liked the songs.

  • January 02, 2009 Fingerstyle Guitar Xmas

I've only been playing for 2 months and decided to purchase this to see if I could handle playing songs done in this style. It was tricky for me since I do not have the dexterity to switch from chord to chord. But practicing everyday I was able to...

hear results that sounded like the song within a week. It is very gratifying to play these songs that I've known all my life. The arrangements are great and I can see myself playing these Xmas songs through out the year.
