melodies provides a well-balanced program piece. It is easily accompanied by a pianist of modest ability, and a competent recorder player adds an interesting dimension. Some of the pieces (Go tell it on the mountain, Son of Maria) are virtually sight-singable; others (Sleep Child of Winter, In Dulci Jubilo) provide satisfying challenges. It is a good introductory Christmas suite for an SSA choir who might find Britten's Ceremony of Carols a bit too challenging.
