Good Arrangements

Some nice arrangement for some of the time tested classics in here.

Musicians beware

Terrible book, full of typos, needlessly difficult fingerings. I really couldnt recommend it knowing how poorly arranged it is. Half the pieces can be played max. Really lazyly arranged and edited. The book might have been better without the fingerings at all, that way you wouldnt have to spend all your time figuring out what possible idea he had that this would make it easier for people to understand. Typos everywhere, quotation marks as dots, bar lines cut in half. I gaurantee you will have to photocopy almost every part of the this book, just to have a proper rehearsal, as page turns are in the worst places. It will probably make your duo sound worse than it is, with your guitarist frantically playing notes arranged so unintuitively. More hastle than its worth. The person who arranged it clearly has never played through it.

A Good Buy

I found this book particularly helpful in planning what music to play for an upcoming wedding. From a flutists point of view, the arrangements are pretty good, easy to play, and all the music is arranged in the book according to preludes, processionals, meditations, and recessionals which really helps! I highly recommend this book!

Utility is teh key here

All the books you'll find of this ilk are by folks who've used this music for gigs. Consider you audiences--weddings, cocktail parties--and their musical knowledge/tastes. For many years (1975-1990) I played gigs with all the flute and guitar masterworks (Ibert, Giuliani, Castelnuevo-Tedesco, Villa-Lobos, etc.) with flautists who studied with Murray Panitz, James Gallway, etc. We'd be playing our fingers off and then someone would come up to us and ask, "Can you play any Beatles songs?" So we decided to chill out, drink some wine, tone it down a few notches, and play what the masses liked. And we made more money that way :-) That all said, this is pleasant MUZAK for the masses.

Nice, useful book

This is indeed a book of well-known music in rather ordinary, but perfectly competent and readable arrangements. I can't imagine giving it only 1 star just for being what it is. I find the book very useful for gigs. It's not for your master's recital. Please forgive it.

Nice Book

The pieces in this collection seem to be very well written. The work is simplistic in scope...these are simply wedding standards. In that, this book accomplishes its task with a lot of taste.

Dull

Rather boring, simplistic arrangements. Conventional choices. It would be better to search out works originally written for guitar by inspired composers.
